Question about my blog

I just started a blog last week. It is a blog that reviews toys and I use amazon as my affiliate. Should I also ad adsense? I am not sure because I want repeat readers and I am not sure if that would be a turn off. But I also want my site to reach its full earning potential.

IMO, you are at a very good stage to test it. Many sites that have amazon affiliate widgets on etc also have adsense. Others don't. Seen as though your blog is new, you can test it by adding adsense on there and monitoring your google analytics for new and most importantly... returning visitors... If you see a drop in returning visitors (and i mean a big drop) then remove adsense, or think about a different placement of it on your site. Also be sure to check on your adsense click stats as if there are no clicks (and no cash) then theres no point in running them on your blog.

With regards to adsense on your site: I don't mean spam your site with adsense all over the show, as surely that will discourage people from visiting your site and I'm sure is against adsense policy. Adsense should be an "embellishment" on your site, i.e. a small inclusion of ads that adds value to your site and your readers.Hope this made sense.

That's what I was thinking. I just made my first commission this weekend. I thought about leaving it as is for now and after the holidays adding adsense to make up for a likely drop in Amazon sales. I do not want to affect my affiliate sales but at this time I do not have a large enough sample of sales to test the possible effect on them.

I have a tendeny to over analyze everything so maybe I am thinking too far into this...

As long as ads are unobtrusive, it shouldn't be a problem. Just don't over do it. Keep it simple and you should easily benefit from increased ad revenue.

Try one adsense at the top right inside your content. Try it with only one positioning on your site as you test it with Amazon. It will take you some time before you get reasonable Amazon earnings.

Just had an idea!

You can also monitor your visitors' actions. If you go to inspectletdotcom you can register for a free account. (1 site permitted) It is a heat-mapping service that captures visitors' actions on your site. So my idea would be to install it now and leave it running for a couple of days/a week (depending on the amount of traffic your site gets, which will give you enough evidence of where the most clicks happen) You can then use your gathered info, and decide whether:

a)you want to place ads or
b)if you do place ads, where to "strategically" place them for maximum impact.

Using the heat mapping data gathered you can then make a more informed decision on the addition of ads on your site or not.
