Question about Multiple LEGITIMATE accounts in one name

Hello everyone,

So I had an account a year ago, was selling VERO, bla bla bla, I got banned from ebay. My stupid mistake.

Then a few months ago, I created an account through a friend selling completely LEGITIMATE items. Got verified through PayPal, etc. Everything is going smoothly. However, during the Christmas rush, I got a bit behind on shipping, and due to a relatively high number of customer disputes, ebay has now rated the account as "below standard performance". Which means lowered search results, and man it HURTS!

Now, I know that you are allowed to have up to 8 ebay accounts, all attached to the same paypal account. So, I would like for my friend to simply open up another account and to start selling under that. However, I have a few questions about that first.

1) Will ebay rate the new account as "below standard performance" as well automatically? I really REALLY would like to have this new account be more of a "clean slate". Can anyone provide insight on this?

2) Perhaps less importantly; on the current account, I have a seller limit of $15K/month. With the new account, will there be a new, separate seller limit? Or will the two accounts have a joint seller limit of $15K/month? Or perhaps something else?

**EDIT:** 3) Also, does anyone know if opening up another account raises any red flags with ebay? There have already been some "close calls" and I want to try to avoid ebay's watchful gaze if possible.

Soultrain you have inspired me. You are concerned by having a 15k month limit and you don't know the answeres to these questions...? Wow there is more money on ebay than I ever imagined. There is a butt load to learn but if one already understands IM and how "the man" can track you down then ebay is a walk in the park.
I mean this with complete respect to you. You seem to be doing f---ing great.

SIDENOTE: I hope you weren't enjoying the family time more than taking care of biz during the christmas... that would have been careless.... again if this is the case you rock being able to make a profit with a laid back approach. I love it.

Glad to be an inspiration, but I don't think it's quite as grand as you believe. The 15K limit is the listing limit, meaning I can only list $15k worth of items each month. Only a small fraction of those sell, and now with the "below standard performance" lowering my search results, it's even lower. But hell, I'll take a compliment that comes my way! :dance:

And no, it wasn't family time that got me behind; in fact, I wasn't behind at all. It was the massive international shipping delays that are experienced every year, and for some reason I thought I would be able to squeak by in 2010. No such luck. Best of luck in all your egay adventures.

So you can have 8 accounts on the same paypal... with the same ip address???

Cuz I was about to make quite a few ebay account with different everything.

Getting new bank account easy
new fake name easy
ip address is easy
verified paypal is easy as well.

So why not just make a bunch of accounts?

This is actually not true. It was 2+ years ago. While there is no information made public by eBay, they do not want people to have more than 1 eBay account. You can ask them to open up a second account, but this means you will pretty much be unable to use your first/original account for about 3 months while your second account builds up a reputation with eBay.

Could you expound on that please? Why would it mean that you would be "pretty much unable to use your original account for about 3 months"? Could you provide some first-hand experiences? Thanks.

Okay, say you have Account 1 - You sell an average of 100 items a month.

You create your second account, Account 2 and you list your 10 items for that first month. This is eBay's new seller limit. It doesn't matter if you call them and say "This is my second account" - your second account is considered a new sellers account.

So, after you sell your 10 items your first month on eBay, eBay gives your Account 2 the "Do not sell any more items until your account is upgraded next month" but you have Account 1 selling those 100 items a month. So eBay sees you have 2 accounts, 1 is temporarily restricted, the other is not. This results in Account 1 becoming restricted, and thus resulting in Account 2 also becoming further restricted. If you call in, you can explain the situation, but what they are going to tell you is:

"Wait until after the first 90 days on your new account before you resume selling on both."

After the 30 days, you can sell like 25 or something, the third month I think you can sell 50 or something, maybe 100. After that, they "review" your account, meaning a computer script allows additional amounts to be listed/sold while you begin rebuilding your personal data portfolio with eBay/PayPal linking both accounts. Unfortunately, someone who runs more than 1 accounts is considered a higher risk by eBays security algorithm.

Wow. That does make sense now, thank you for the thorough response. I guess I got lucky with the limitations, my Account #1 was created just in the beginning of November, and I've already been able to raise the limits quite a bit. However, this account-through-a-friend is quite the golden ticket and I don't want to jeopardize that in any way, so I'll look to other options for the time being. Thanks.

Soul ,watch out ,egay can ban this accounts . I saw this happen before ,first u get letter of low performance,then probation for 60 days ,then suspension ,so try rise seller performance asap ,and don't get in disputes .They calculate disputes in % to sales .

Thanks for the heads up. Yes, I'm aware that I need to keep the seller performance up. For anyone wondering, I had reached a level of 4% of disputes for all transactions when my seller performance was lowered. (It was soon after opening my account). Since then, the % of disputes has been lowering consistently, and I've been able to raise my seller limits. That was a few months ago, so everything looks in the clear! :beer:
