Hey guys, I have been trying recently to rank my websites in Google and so forth, but have a couple questions

Firstly, I have been reading about programs like GSA Search Engine Ranker as well as other automated search engine ranking programs, but came across people who say not to run those programs on your money site.

Why would you not want to do this?
Can Google tell that it might be automated link building and punish you?
How can you overcome this issue?

In addition, I can never seem to find a straight answer on how many backlinks a day is safe. I do understand that it can be difficult to gauge because of the quality of the backlinks, but is there any ballpark estimate you guys can give?

Thanks for looking!

How many back-links a day vary depending on a lot of factors, there is no "straight" answer to this.

As for GSA and other automatic programs, you shouldn't run it directly to your money site because the links are generally low(er) quality and Google can tell easier that it's automated which will in turn penalize your site. This is why it's best to use it as a Tier 2/3 instead of directly to your moneysite because at the worst, you will only lose your Tier 1/2 buffers.

Ok, that makes sense about the Tier stuff.

Now lets say I have a website about video game reviews which we will call my money site, what do I do to grow the rankings on that site, while still wanting to take advantage of my GSA programs? Could I make a blog, for instance, about similar subject matter to the money site and then link to the money site?

From what I learned so far and what im planning on doing ofr my site is make a related blog as you said, then use automated traffic to the blog. Then your blog should be linked to your money site. But it would help to have multiple of those blogs so your site has more sources. Your blog should also however have kinda high quality content.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

No, it's a site of game reviews so that's already a content blog as itself already. To grow rankings, you would need to build back-links to your site under a specific keyword which takes quite a bit of work. You can learn how to find out how to build links properly on BHW if you read through the threads. You can also take advantage of your GSA program by automating it to build links to your higher tiers although it's recommended to build your Tier 1s by hand.

Yea I would recommend using Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo/Hubpages and Blog Platforms like Wordpress and BlogSpot to build mini sites for your Tier 1. Build these by hand and make the content high quality with media embedded. Then blast the shit outta them with GSA. Make 1 or 2 a day - will take a while to do since they're hand made with high quality content.

Sounds like a plan, I understand the reasoning now. One more thing is, do I make the mini sites a similar niche to what my money site is?
