Hey guys... I am planning to create PDF / Powerpoint documents with links to my sites to further broaden my backlink profiles...

    So far I know about

    scribd.com
    slideshare.net
    docsctoc.com
    authorstream.com
    edocr.com
    issuu.com
    screencast.com

do you know of more sites like these?

I wonder if it is a good or a bad idea to publish my website content as PDF files online?! Can this hurt my site?
Or is it better to create unique articles for every file I upload?

    Thanks

    edocr.com
    yudu.com
    empressr.com

    I hope this helps

I think it wont hurt your ranks, because imagine if you make PDF file , and people share your PDF on other website, they wont change content , + you get backlink, i dont think that you need unique content for each published PDF or word document

I am just wondering if it could somehow degrade my site (that is currently at #1 for my main KW) if I publish a duplicate article from my money site via pdf on a domain that might have more authority / higher pr?!

http://www.calameo.com/ is decent. PDFCast.org is good (no registration!) too. Apart from that, the list you guys have collected above would be more than sufficient.

There are some that actually give you a link from the description; for the rest, you can get links from the profiles. I mostly post to 4-5 and that's enough. Gets indexed really, really fast and gives you some diversity.

Yes it could. If it aint broke, don't fix it! Google is first and foremost a document search engine. You NEVER want to put duplicate content from your money site out on the web. Write a unique article for each of the document sharing sites. (but don't post them all on the same day)
