hello , i know that my question is very strange but recently i thinking about domain and how we could make it by our self like web hosting !!
ok i mean that we can buy hosting from hostgator and we can too setup apache "appserv" on pc and convert it to read php and mysql .
so , how we can make our pc make domain name like " domain.com " !!
my question with different form .. when godaddy decided to build company for selling domains what did it do ?
notice : from 5 year i try to do this and i installed windows server 2003 , i follow some tutorials about domains in server windows and i could to make domain *****.com and make it under dns of google.com buy i don't remember anything now !

You need icann approval, and for the price it costs to actually buy a host pc, and setup is peanuts. If you want to be the next godaddy, then you should know how to already do this within a couple of days. 5 years is a long time to take.

For the public web? You can't. You have to register a domain at a registrar, there is a lot of paper work involved to become a registrar.

If for yourself only so you can type a domain instead of IP or localhost to view the content hosted locally, you can do the mapping in hosts file.

he wants do host the domains on his computer.

He needs a fixed IP, a good internet connection, then it should change the A record of the domain to his computer's IP

But really, that isn't worth, you will pay on the energy and internet bill more that you will pay for a hosting account on the providers. Also your computer might have hardware issues soon because it will run 24/7

if you want to start domain registration company then first apply for accreditation from icann then if they approve you can start :)

He's not only looking to host a website locally but also to host a domain, in other words become a registrar which he can't do for free.

His biggest problem is neither fixed IP, nor registration or anything. His main problem is lack of knowledge IMHO :)

At first I was wondering if you were in the mood to experiment, or what you meant.
Samerman If you are willing and capable of doing all of that to make a host you can work with, I would be happy to offer you a "hosting review" account for 6 months for you to use IF it's approved by a MOD and not in violation of BHW forum rules.

I would expect you to be in compliance with our TOS. If I totally misunderstood then I apologize, it's rather late and I'm tired, but if it would assist you in taking it to the next level then great.
