Would google news backlinks be effective for a normal website?

Normal website: English content, not local business website.

I heard that they are effective for local business websites, but can I get your opinion for a normal website? Anyone have experience on this?

I also heard that Google News could generate a lot of organic traffic for websites. But all types of websites cannot be qualified for publishing in Google News. They mostly accept publishing, news, and blog websites.
