Question about getting a page to go viral

If I don't use any FBML and just tell users to invite their friends, would that work? I've been hearing that the option is down but I'm not sure if it's just for people using that code or not...Also if it would still work, whats the best option to go about telling them, and making it easy for them to add their friends?

Tell them to add friends via the "suggest to friends" link on the wall page...

It;s still their on main page, just no available to be placed inside canvas of FBML pages.
