Hey there,

I want to build a content locked website where the visitor gets to download a free ebook.

Am I allowed to distribute free ebooks I found on the internet?

This one i found (sadly I can't post any links) doesn't seem to be copyright protected.
Does the simply fact that it isn't copyright protected authorize me to redistribute it?

Would be nice if someone could clear this up! :top:

Unless it indicates that you have some usage rights, or specifically declares it is free of copyright you should assume it is copyrighted. If it was PLR material, it would say as much and would tell you what usage rights you have. It sounds to me like you randomly acquired some report you like, and now want to use it as your own. Without express rights printed on the material, again - you should assume it is copyrighted, and at least completely re-write it or have it re-written if you want to use it.

Alternatively you could find any PLR product, and use that as is or re-write it ever so slightly, change links, etc....

As long as the DMCA policy is dodgy or not honored you can get away with anything.

Make an ebook directory and spread paid books and scripts for free.

generally ebooks that aren't PLR products all will not allow you to distribute elsewhere, however there are leaks everywhere online and the smaller ebooks rarely take action in getting them off.
