Hello. I started selling some t-shirts. These t-shirts are all the same but the prints on them are different. It is very difficult to write an explanation for each of these separately. I'm considering using duplicate product descriptions. Will this hurt Seo?

Not really, many products are distributed across many websites with almost similar product details. Google is bored of punishing people for duplicating content, so he usually ignores it.

But your customers might get annoyed if they see the same description for all the products. If possible, try to twist at least initial lines, yeah?

How many products are there by the way?

Hello. First of all, thank you very much for writing a comment. I've been designing the site for 4 days. There are 2 categories and 35 products in total. 35 products are evenly distributed into categories.

This is what Google's John Mueller said:

“So there are two aspects here, when it comes to duplicate content.

First of all, you don’t get a penalty for duplicate content.

So …even before you look into it too much, the only time we would have something like a penalty or an algorithmic action or manual action is when the whole website is purely duplicated content, …if it’s one website that is scraping other websites for example.

If these are ecommerce sites and you have the description that’s the same and the rest of your website is different, that’s perfectly fine.

You don’t need to worry about any demotion or dropping in ranking or anything.”

This was taken from SEO Office Hours hangout in September 2021.

Actually pretty helpful for anyone worried about this. I would however add that if you can add anything to the product description, like the product title or anything else, it will help. For some of my clients we write 1000's of unique product descriptions, for others we just add some bits here and there to make them "more" unique.

35 products are not much. A good writer can spin the content manually for all the 35 products at one go. If you do not have budget for that then you can alter a few lines yourself, may be about the design of the print?

A great idea. I will have to write a new unique description every time I add a product. It will be great if I start before the products multiply
