Question about Copyrights for Youtube and Anime Merch

Hi guys, not sure if anyone is in this field

I basically generate AI videos of Anime characters while using songs that are remixed from the original, have gained some following but i have a question about monetization.

From what i know, if a video depicts Anime characters or if a song is remixed from the original that is being used in your videos, it does not warrant monetization due to the fact that it still falls under Copyright.

But i see some online stores and Youtube channels doing the same and it seems like they're getting away with it? I don't want to make an assumption that they don't have a license from the maker though.

My question is it most of them are doing it in a grey area and is it easy to get permissions? (I'm wondering how to get also, do i have to pay?)

Monetization won't work on such videos. Both of your elements does not add any value. Even if your remix manages to surpass YT automated systems, song owners or copyright owners can claim it manually.

I'm actually thinking of branching out to Anime merch / 3d Print figures / Donations / affiliates as an alternative for revenue but then again, copyright on some of them. But i see so many online stores freely selling them im not sure if they're doing it on a grey area or have official licensing.

You cannot monetize those videos but you can use them to promote goods and services
 
Youtube is a strange beast in that you are sort of allowed/not allowed comedy parodies of copyright under fair use, provided you can prove they are not official. To give an example, in the 80s and 90s football and wrestling sticker companies used a loophole of saying "Unofficial" and it allowed them to sell stickers of the players and wrestlers. It's not a good business model though. Imagine going to an unofficial Mcdonalds, lol or buying an unofficial ford motor car. lol

The fact is if you need to copy someone else's character, you haven't used many of the free meme characters that exist, or public domain, or hell, god forbid, you even your own imagination, and made up a cool character with the help of ai and other tools.
