Hey everyone, I'm new to SEO and I had a quick question about buying links..

I have a set of KWs that I want to rank for on a forum, and I see that my two of my competitors ranking have bought links. My question is, is there a chance I won't get penalized? or will I get penalized for sure down the line? I was looking in the market place and there's a seller that has 50 links right now for about $60 which I think is a good deal, but I'm not sure since I've never done this before

Also I'm currently hosting the forum on a shared hosting with a couple other sites. Should I move the forum to a different host if I plan to to BH SEO on it so the other sites don't get screwed?

Any advice is appreciated,

Thanks

You won't get penalized from buying links. You'll get penalized using wrong links.

Could you elaborate on this a bit? Sorry I'm new to this.

From my understanding if you buy links and google eventually catches on, you'll get penalized. What do you mean using wrong links? As in buying shitty quality links?

That's exactly what he means. Research the seller's thread here on BHW & check all the reviews before spending your hard earned money on links that could be worthless.

Lots of seller are selling crap "PBN" (P stands for Public and not for Private) links. There are many threads in this section in which people are complaining of getting penalized, because of the services/links they bought on BHW. So you better double check what and where you buy something on here.

And yes, of course there is a risk of getting penalized by using link building to get ranked. Just make high quality links, some diversity (social bookmarks, wiki, web2.0, press releases and pbn links) and don't go too fast. Then you will be fine and the risk will be low.

Thanks for the info!! You all have been very helpful.

Let's say I do get penalized in the future for some reason, will my other websites on my shared hosting with the same IP be in trouble? I don't plan on doing anything black hat on those websites.

Also, for some of the sellers, it is hard to find a negative or even critical review..which seems a bit fishy. I also contacted one seller telling him my site isn't even indexed yet and has no content, but I should just buy the links right away anyway so they 'index faster'. Not sure about that either..lol

If anyone can refer me to a good seller I'd highly appreciate that! Thanks once again guys

If you get penalized can't you just use Google Webmaster Tools to disavow those links? Or is that not how it works?

I'm talking about when google deindexes you, i believe it is not reversable in some cases but someone correct me if im wrong

you may check with the seller whether they can help you to remove the links once you got the penalty

I don't recommend buying links on which you don't have any control. If you're willing to setup a PROPER PBN then buy domains from Auctions and diversify hosts. Be natural, be regular. Buy shared hosting on all domains but make sure they're all different, from trusted providers.

Although I don't guarantee this is a 100% foolproof methodology but if you manage to build quality links, diversify link profile, write good & unique content then you're good to go.

If you are buying links you are not getting a PBN. A PBN is a private blog network, if anyone can buy a link from it, it's not a PBN, it's just buying a link.

The problem is that, like Nakamura says, the P stands for Public - after a while.

If a method works, people jump on it, pay a lot of money and the company providing said method grows! However, this growth means the footprint grows as well. And what started out as a private network is now suddenly used by 300+ companies / websites / people.

There are countless examples of it. Your best best is to set something up yourself and only share posts with other PBN owners. It's very hard to restrict yourself on growth when your PBN is making you money.

And you will get caught. If not by the algorithm, then you will by some competitor ratting you out.

Unless you keep the P Private ;-)

I think I may buy links because i think i can make some quick cash on my niche, good for starting up. competition doesn't seem to difficult because lack of content. if there's potential for some good long term money i might start a legit version on different hosting.

I wouldn't just go off reviews, I've experienced having spent over an hour looking through pages of reviews to find that a seller looks credible. When I buy PBN links, even if they don't tell me where the links are, I eventually find them. No matter how expensive and how good they advertise their links to be, most sellers who sell links are selling PUBLIC network links with hundreds or thousands of links pointing to other websites. Secondly, what I find to be most effective is if your backlink is located on the home URL of a website, when you buy PBN links, most of the time, your link will be on the home page for a day or a few days, then fall onto the inner page like Domain.com/page-8/

If you were to buy links, make sure you get a sample, and if you could, try to buy links that are "permanent home page" links.

Sometimes, buying crappy PBN links could actually hurt your site. I've had domain where I've spent a bit over a thousand dollars on links and some of the links were tagged as "high risk" links by one of the site explorers that were not .htaccess blocked. I'd see some rankings go up after a few days to a few weeks, and then come back down, sometimes really far down.

Also, if you do happen to find some of your links, you will notice that the articles are usually spun crap and sometimes not even relevant to your keyword.

If a link package sounds too good to be true, it probably is. $1/post = garbage link, guaranteed.

Can you get penalized for buying links? Yes. Is it for certain? No.
