I've created an affiliate website and have been trying my hand at white hat seo as I'd like this website to rank, and stay ranked for awhile. I've been studying competitor backlinks and found a few good forums related to my niche that allow me to get do-follow backlinks through my profile / posting. Now I posted about 10 times on each forum I found, and within two days of buying the domain I had 8 keywords in the top 100 which was nice. My question is, should I continue to post on these forums on a regular basis, and would those additional links be beneficial to my ranking or hurt it?

Would 100 do-follow backlinks from one niche releated forum website be better then 10 backlinks from that website, have no difference in ranking, or hurt me in the long run??

Forum links are like rain for your website.

But remember your website needs fertilizer and sunshine too.

It won't hurt you and won't help you a lot. You'd better have a variety of well-indexed sources.

You need to dilute those thinks with some blog commenting. The negative side of forum links - you can not change anchor texts, pointing to your site.

Instead of ranking I would actually suggest to post in forums that have the right target audience. If it's fora with quite some visitors and they're right in the targetgroup of what you're offering; this is worth much more than the eventual increase in ranking that you get from it
