should I keep building backlinks for both domains (the one doing redirects and the one receiving redirects) or i should only focus on the new domain?

if I stop building links to the old domain, will that make it weaker in terms of SEO by time?

Try to keep building backlinks for new domains. Because impact of old domain decreases with the passage of time as traffic shifted to new domain.

You should only build backlinks for the new domain, that is the one receiving redirects.
There is no point building links for the old domain.

Try to build backlinks for new domain because your old site is redirecting traffic to your new site so google will derank that site soon. so according to my concept you should give backlinks to your new domain.

You could build backlinks for the new domain. I think it is the only best way.
Shouldn't build links for old domains.
