Question about 301 redirect from expired domains

Hi guys, I recently noticed a website with many 301 redirect from expired domains on the very good websites, most are DA 90+.
So I am wondering if this kind of technique is white hat or black hat? Will google penalize such 301 redirects? I mean obviously the 301 redirects are bought by the webmaster.
Let me know your thoughts there, thanks

You can add the 301 redirects from the old URL to the new URL and pass all the links and the link juice to the unique URL. This ensures that you don't lose any SEO ranking. Now think of that same concept on another domain that has expired.

It's the blacker shade of greyhat.

It has been considered to not work that much anymore.

For what reason would a bunch of high ranking domains redirect to another domain?

It's definitely a Blackhat method.

Google will eventually penalize, that's for sure. It's just a matter of time.

The question is how long the webmaster can get away with it?

Yes, You should avoid it much redirection because Google doesn't like many redirects. Google clearly introduced many redirections can be a penalty for any website.

But if redirecting was Blackhat and penalty then wouldn't competitors redirect to our websites?
