I sell QR Code Generation, Tracking and Management systems to offline
businesses. I design custom QR Codes and also get a lot for upsells
for mobile optimized sites and mobile marketing campaigns.

Where are you living? In the Dark ages? By the time people like you catch
    up, it's all over.
If they haven't got a phone that can manage QR Codes or don't know what one
is then they most probably won't have any money either and what is the point
    of marketing to them?

Some of you people make me laugh, and I'm glad it's the bank I'm laughing
    all the way to.

if you were (really) making $$$ from QRcodes you wouldn't be so nervous when answering messages like mine.

QR codes exist since many years, and they are poorely used by people all over the world, they are just decorating newspapers and restaurants door....

tv's everyday, in newspapers, on billboards ect.
By the way, What bloody question am I nervous about.
You're a fool with your head in the ground.

    have to agree with oxonbeef.
in the uk they have been around for the last few years but its only in the last 12 months the big companies have started to use them.
and what happens once the big companies start to use them? everyone follows.

oxonbeef - are you in the uk? can you pm me your service? and any stats/case studies you may have done?

It helps with Google Places, it gives you points for a better, complete listing &
it is a good way for some local companie's, to get quick and fast reviews straight from the customer's smartphone.

Getting reviews for a Googe Place listing is in some niches kinda hard.
So you will want to get each and any review out there.

In the future, QR codes will become even more important. As I know, in the US are more smartphones being bought, than students finishing their college.

Why not go with it straight away from the beginning?
Also, you kinda can impress some clients with it. They feel like you know the sh*t even more :)

    That's it..

You're oppossing a BELIEF against a FACT. You're trying to convince someone that's speaking out of EXPERIENCE that he's wrong because you IMAGINE things are different. Sometimes I wonder why it's such a difficult concept to grasp for some people. And the reason I say oxonbeef's comments are spot-on is because I too know QR codes work, and they work well. Know your target market...

That is why you get insulted in pm, to keep it off the board.
So I will try and keep it civil.

How on earth can you say that qr codes are non profitable.
5 sales staff selling one selling one management system a day each at £497 makes me roughly £1735 a day + $100 x3 for hosting = £235.
I say x3 because although we push to sell our own hosting some are adamant
    to keep their own.
Upsell$$$$ are endless I don't even want to go into those figures.
My clients are happy because they pass the cost on to the end user and increase business at the same time.

And if you haven't yet worked out how to use qr codes for CPA yet you are leaving so much food on the table.
    Never mind, I'll eat it.

What some members fail to realise is that the operative word is not internet but marketing..
Just because you don't grasp the concept don't poo poo the idea.

Hey maybe the need help with their marketing. Perhaps some CPA?

... And that's how I know you know what you're talking about :).

On to OP's question, I've wondered the same thing myself, not just about 'oogle, but other internet players as well. My conclusion is that it would be surprising if they're not 'decoding' them, or at least on the way to implement the decoding process.

    Cheers mate!
Don't you think I've been thinking of ways to hijack other peoples codes as well?
My management system can redirect codes on the fly but that's all back end.
What if you could copy a code and override their back end? :D:D:D
