Kinda curious who's using QR codes? Do you even know what they are? lol
i know what they are lol
they can definitely be very effective, especially if you have a large facebook fan page or a big twitter account
i am mainly interested in bulk SMS marketing and building SMS opt in lists but QR codes are very interesting, i definitely plan on using them in the future for my marketing
are you using them OP? if so, how are you using them? and are they working well for you?
you can actually use QR codes to generate and populate SMS message information, save the person typing the info in and making mistakes - but you can use the qr code to also send the person to an opt in page to so they submit their number to your sms list too...
i absolutely love qr codes - they are the perfect bridge between offline and online media
thing is most qr codes that i have seen are not being deployed properly!
say for example over here in the US we have a huge electrical retail chain called Best Buy - in the sunday papers they ran some advertising and had a QR code printed and i thought cool scanned waited for ever for the site to load - it took me to a non mobile website! i was like wtf! and its these type of experiences that can make people can think pahhh qr codes are crap...
but if you deploy your qr code campaign properly it can open up a new world of marketing - the growth of qr codes over here in the US has simply been amazing!
right now i push most of my clients mobile sites with the qr codes - to promos and special offers
i also do qr code tracking so i can identify exactly where a person is located when they scan a qr code, so if its on the side of truck, someones tshirt, a mail out, etc, etc i can identify where the code was scanned using the phones gps to around 100ft - with every type of marketing campaign you do you HAVE to know those kind of stats its imperative to know if its working or not.
i could go on all day about this subject but bottom line you can make good money from qr codes - offering qr code campaign management and custom qr codes, ie qr codes that are not just black and white, and not just made up of squares but also include peoples logos and branding in them
mobile marketing is wide open right now - its ripe for the taking - just gotta keep thinking outside of the box!
I've been wondering how you go about tracking QR Code scans. Are you using a particular software? Also, I have a client that is a auto dealership and i've been trying to come up with a clever way of assisting them with sales and adding QR's to their arsenal. Any ideas?
I use them since a couple of years now...
@virtualpros - what type of marketing is he doing at the moment?
All the traditional and we have set him up with a SMS campaign that really is aimed at his "Main" leads capture channel but I was wondering if there was something that we might try with his inventory. May be way out there.
i think a lot of guys like looking at cars period - i guess if you linked the sms to a mobile website so people can either watch video or a slide show of the cars that would be great - people then can be looking at the cars on their cell phones at work or on the toilet! hahahaa
same thing with linking a qr code to the same mobile site - especially if hes advertising in the car magazines and that you can only show so many pictures but with one qr code linking to his site! you instantly improve the worth of your ad placement!
send out a sms with featured cars with a link to the site to see them... you dont have to have the full inventory on there just the money makers or the cars that need shifting!
whats cool with the qr code tracking is that you can see the exact location the qr code got scanned - so if it is in a publication you can see how popular a) the qr code is! lol its still early days yet - and b) whats the most active area for them
with any type of marketing your gonna have to get over that whats in it for me - so make scanning the qr code worth their while but also try capturing the lead too... by having a submit page for their phone number before looking at the cars on the site perhaps?
if you have a click to call button on each page of the site - it kind makes it much easier for them to call the business straight away direct from the mobile site
hope all the makes sense!
Dude, you are awesome! Glad you smacked me around. LOL I appreciate all the experience and knowledge you are sharing truly.
@virtualprops - don't mention it! lol have been here a while and used to be quite the regular. i genuinely like to help people where i can especially when its about a subject i actually enjoy!
i haven't been around lately as much as i used too - life throws all kinda things at you when you least expect it, but it definitely feels good to be back!
its good to have you back man, especially with this new mobile marketing section since you seem very knowledgeable about mobile marketing. i also appreciate all of your help. i am getting a lot of marketing ideas
@Ukescuba, you have mentioned tracking the QR Code scan a couple of times and I was wondering how you were doing that. Are you tracking by how many folks scan are sent to the mobile site?
You could do it like that, and use google analytics too to get more specific data but it's kinda a ball ache to configure each time
you can also use a basic services like goo.gl or bit.ly they now offer qr code generation for free but they offer only basic tracking and only give you limited information.
There are a couple of paid for services that offer the type of tracking services that I mention, you can also purchase your own white label scripts too which if your offering mobile marketing services to clients it's another up sell you can use to generate cash
I paid around $800 and spent a lot of time customizing mine but it's paid for itself ten times over and will continue to do so
Along with offering the tracking service to clients, you can also offer custom qr codes or branded qr codes which of course are trackable too... What this means is that you customize the code and embed the clients logo in to the code and change up the colors too, you can also do cool editing to them and they are still scannable. To give you an idea I charge around $100 to $150 to do a custom qr code lol it's relatively easy money once you know how to do it.
The beauty about trackable and dynamic qr codes is that you can use them over and over again for different campaigns for example if you hit up a realtor to provide qr codes and mobile sites for example you can provide him with signs but once the house is sold they can reuse the sign again by logging and updating the destination URL and the qr code doesn't change it's design - whereas you can't do that with most of the free services.
Additionally the biggest use of qr codes is for print - but anyone that's designed for print before will tell you they would rather have a scalable vector image over a jpeg any day, as when you scale a jpeg it becomes pixelated and blurry - with the vector image you can make the qr code the size of a house and it will still be sharp as anything just like the did for Calvin klien in times square. Most free generators that I know only provide non vector output.
Hope that helps
Uk, so are you saying that the paid version that you have generates Vector? and do you care to share the brand of the scan you purchased? Also as a side note to your comment regarding RE Agents; what are your thoughts about creating mobile websites for individual properties with a gallery for photos that the QR Code could send potential buyers. i was thinking of using a site generator for this. Your thoughts?
Yeah the script is from venitpix.com if you happen to use them please let victor know that jay sent you!
as for the mobile sites for real estate agents - thats a no brainer - theres a few things i have in the pipeline to make creating those type of sites much more easier!
When you are ready to pull the trigger on the mobile sites "generator" please let me know as one of my good friends just call yesterday and was interested in QR and SMS and I mentioned mobile sites and if I can put a nice package together for her with value, she will bringing 15 of her associates in her firm with her.
I vaguely remember starting to notice them last year, but it was an "under the radar" sort of thing in my mind. Then, with the tsunami, and google using them to assist in reuniting people I learned what they are.
So now, months later, I still need to catch up
I am committing myself to it now, though.
QR codes are a dime a dozen and that why they dont work
Im planning on putting 2 on my business card. 1 on front with a vcard goes straight to their contacts and the other side will have one that goes to my website. Ive seen it done before and really liked the idea. I read an article that Toyota is supposed to be rolling out a whole QR system for their dealerships so get on the bus before it comes cause the ship may sail as soon as the big boys ideas start trickling down.
ukescuba who are you using for SMS ?, I want a piece of that pie if you don't mind sharing
at the moment i am using twilio for longcode sms
