[Q] Pre-registering domains for sandbox

Is it possible to register multiple domains, add content, and wait several months before building backlinks to it so that when you are ready to rank, it has no sandbox wait time?

If this doesn't work would I have to add a few backlinks THEN let it sit?

I am just trying to figure this out so I can think ahead.
