Purchasing Domain Names

Hi - I have recently come across this site and I am in the process of launching a website. My focus in the past has always been developing my own in php but Wordpress is just awesome. Reading through here so far the best chance of success is focussing on SEO and Copy and use Wordpress to build it. The technical bits are so easy with Wordpress. The info on this site is awesome - thanks for everything I have learned so far.

I have come across a couple of domains similar to mine that have expired. They have a PR of 2. Not brilliant but better than my site which is new. Am I better trying to get these domains and launching the sites under those domains or launching my own site under a new domain and doing a 301 redirect? Will I have the benefit of the expired domain PR this way?

It depends if the new domain name is a lot better than the expired ones. If it's between buyphonechargers.com and eerge22-111.org I'd go with the PR-0 with the better name over the ugly named PR-2 all day long.

Are there lots of things to sell to them?

The domain name is very specific in a not very big list of products. The site I am developing covers more areas. Mainly because I can write quite a lot more quality content on 10 or 12 products.

The domain name I am looking to purchase covers only 2 products on the list. Do I recreate the site on the specific and back link to the general or 301 redirect the specific to the general? I don't want to SEO two sites or compete against myself unless it will be beneficial.

Yes, either way you will get the benefit of the expired domain. Ensure you spam-check them adequately to make sure they haven't been spammed or penalized.

Did you check the backlinks of these domains? Also, make sure they are not penalised in any way.
