Publishing a Book: Online or Offline?

I'm looking to publish a book (health niche) I'm not sure if I should publish a regular book or an ebook.

It seems that if I go w a regular book the profit margin is very low. About 10%

If for example I sell the book for $25 I'm only making 2.5 profit per book

If I sell as ebook - I'll need to do more marketing - I know - buy I only need to sell 10% of what I would sell offline. It's all profit. [Even if I go w clickbank - still much higher profit margin + affiliates]

The benefit of going offline is more credibility - I guess.

What do u think?

hey man, if you did publish them you would sell them in bulk to book stores and companies if they are interested. So you can make, yea 2.5x100 if they decide to buy (like barnes and nobles) just a guess though.

for ebooks, there are hundreds of ways. Try kindle store to start

Unless you have a monopoly, go ebook. Buying behaviour for books is unquestionably online now and that trend will continue.

I have published a few books and make good coin. Credibility can be built a lot of ways.

What I mean is that when people see a book they hold it in higher esteem than an ebook.
(anyone can sell an ebook - much harder to sell offline)

You already know the score, it's up to you what you want to do.

Personally I have always preferred the feel of a book so much so that on the rare occasions that I do buy an ebook I print it out (or if it's a big one I only print out specific sections). If you go the real book route you will have to find an editor, not to mention you have to work out printing and distribution. You will have to get it reviewed by critics and that's all assuming that you have already done the market research.

If you do want my opinion I would say go the ebook route, make it available on kindle ePUB maybe and do some promotion. Then if that book is successful it will give you motivation to do another one which could be something like "the sequel to the highly popular......" if nothing else it will ride the good reputation of your previous book to sell more plus people maybe willing to buy the previous book since the price should be lower (or you could give it away to build up a list on an health authority site or something)

if you want to go the real book way go to this "absolute write" forum and look at some of the sections scroll down to about half way and there is a section on publishing like "ask the agent" or "ask the editor" and "self publishing".

Amazon has a print on demand service now, I recommend that one, it will go well with selling through Amazon.

Self publish your ebook, and offer the physical book to look more legit, and if someone buys it, they buy it through the print on demand, so it wont cost you anything.

why don't you test the waters? Sell as an ebook and if it sells well then publish a small run and see how it goes.

lulu.com is a well known print on demand company (POD) but I'd compare before settling on one. There are lots of options out there and online articles about those options. When u do POD your book is available in print and as an ebook. The customer chooses which he wants and u can sell on Amazon and bookstores. Here are a few:

I'd go for a physical book, if the niche is medical, i don't see a lot of doctors looking for research in an ipad, of course there are some but i think theres a more traditional market you're targeting.

You must publish at least 5000 copies of a book like it is published offline. Then you can sell it offline directly from your home online.
