ok, so a friend of mine finally got his PS4. I asked him for the cost. He said: about 500 bucks for the unit, 70 bucks for a game, and 50 bucks for a yearly membership since he needs it to play multiplayer online...

is it me or am I the only one who thinks this is allot of money just for playing games... i just play the free ones like contract wars in my browser and it still entertaining...

I don't get society sometimes... so materialistic.

That's normal buddy. People spend thousands of dollars just to get a single game, which has been released a few days ago or so. Some are addictive to games,so why now?

I think you're at fault here actually. You're patronizing yourself thinking you're better than people who bought a Playstation 4. They wanted to play better looking games and have money for it. Some people like browser games, some people like console games. Don't think you're better than someone because you chose to play a browser game, you still paid for that PC after all.
 
Video games themselves are expensive but you won't get the same experience compared to other different games. Plus consoles now have the added benefit of being able to play back movies and do all that other fancy stuff. If I were you I wouldn't worry so much about what people spend their money on. Enjoy what you enjoy playing and don't forget to go over to your friend's house to have some fun gaming sessions ^_^
 
I think it is worth it. I would have had the xbox one already except they sold out 10 times over at futureshop. People pay way more for computer equipment and gaming
 
A lot of money? Yes. But the PS4 is the only system that will play my favorite game since childhood, Gran Turismo 6.

I'm also going to be buying an Xbox for Forza 5. Since I've never played Forza. They don't make Forza for the PC.

But these two consoles have a few hardware bugs cause they were rushed to the finish line during production, as opposed to the last generation. I'm going to wait till the second hardware revision of the PS4 before I buy it. I don't want to spend $500 for the chance of it turning into a very expensive paperweight after two days of playing with it.

Hang on... think you mean PS3?

I agree it's a lot of money, and always best to avoid launch models. Wouldn't say it's materialistic though, people enjoy it and there's no equal alternatives, not like buying brand fashion etc. when you can get something that looks identical for half the price.
 
Sounds about right really, I got one bought to me for Christmas can't wait to get playing it been itching to unwrap it and plug it in! They cost 400 euros here, have not priced any games yet as I think it'll be some time yet before the games catch up to the console.

its not about the money, its about quality vs price. I played the ps4, ghost game, not impressed to be honest. I know much better looking shooter games.
 
It's form of entertainment. You spend money all the time just to have fun so consoles aren't so different from going to the bar and drinking for all your money. They are both fun.

just don't judge by playing a game, try final fantasy, drive club and other games, it's just awesome..
