Okay super-noooob question here.

What's the difference between a proxy and a vpn. Don't both just give you a 'new' IP address? How will using a single VPN enable you to make multiple accounts on twitter or FB? Won't you just burn out your new IP after 6-9 accounts like you would on your real IP?

Yeah but also VPN is being used by thousands of users at the same time which makes private proxies better
I doubt that social networks ban by IP. They can limit operations for a single IP for a short period of time only. IPv4 has limited address space. If they ban by IP they will lose a lot of users. Private VPN is available as well.

Both have their own use case

Proxies --
Needs no setup on your part , just place the proxy in your application with username and password
Good for scraping , as they platform independent.
Are generally slower if you are going to be dowloading files.

VPN --
You need to install a vpn application to use it
Good for downloading
Harder to setup for scraping on a headless server -- I am using multiple vpn providers as proxies , instead of buying proxies , which will cost me a lot more if i were to buy them from a proxy provider.

Proxies are for High end and BULK works and authority works.

VPS best for normal works.

In simple words :)

I love VPNs combine it with vmware and lets me utilize multiple ips at once

Search on Google you will find lots of resources where you can read differences about VPN and Proxy

I realize Google is out there. and being a noob myself wanted to ask the same questions but didn't out if fear that I would be thrashed.
I have custom scraping tool I had built for me, and I struggled to find to most economical way to do what I do. I have the need to scrape Monday through Friday basically the same USA website.
Id much rather use paid proxies because it's much faster. trying to find a sevice that will get be premium private usa proxy list each day that won't kill my wallet. actually did some stuff with a company called botguruz who I'm sure some of you have seen here.

It depends on your goals. Proxies are great when you need a lot of IPs and VPNs are good in system building.

VPN is best.. more secure and have good protocols which provide total anonymity on internet..

A proxy and a VPN are the most effective tools we use today to fight with geo-restrictions and cope with censorship implementations. A few people mistakenly consider a proxy as an alternative for a VPN though. This is terribly wrong. A VPN is a step ahead than proxy and there are many characteristics that contrast a VPN and proxy from each other.

Would a VPN or Proxy be better for Nike website? Serious question. Hope I am not stepping on any toes.

Hi! I prefer a proxy. They are easier to set up and provide more productivity.

I prefer VPN than proxy..good for download although complicated to use.

Buddy significant difference between VPN and proxy is IP address which is given by proxy already blacklisted, and VPN is much faster then the proxy for more difference you can visit: reviewsdir.com/proxy-vs-vpn-vs-tor/.
