Hi Guys,
How can a website get to know my real IP if I use proxies?
I've a proxy set up in Lan/Network settings and when I search for "what's my proxy" or the like, those sites show my proxy's IP correctly. However, I wanted to use majesticseo and asked them to send a "reset password" email, and they sent me my reail IP as "this request was made from IP...". Furthermore, they know that I've already reached the daily free limit. Obviously, I was using an other account, different proxy, virtual machine even...

So, how can they tell? Is the browser send the real ip along with the proxy? If yes, what's the point of having a proxy?

Check your settings. If you set it up correctly it will show the proxy ip

Thanks, but the setup is correct, as "what's my ip" sites show my proxy's IP. I've found something if "X-Forwarded-For" header is sent by the proxy that can be a problem. How can I check this?

Proxy, Network & Browser Crash Course:

1- make sure the proxy is an elite proxy (google how to check it)
2- use firefox as it can be manipulated to achieve ghost level
3- disable plugins (all plugins) from flash to java
4- use the same timezone as the proxy location
5- clear cache, cookies & flash cookies (google how or what extension to do them automatically)
6 - If nothing works PM me

make sure your proxy is high anonymous.

There is a difference between regular proxies and anonymous proxies. Regular proxies forward your source IP, anonymous proxies don't.

Did you delete cache and cookies?

I've checked my proxies, they were sold as "Premium Private Proxies". I guess they aren't anonymous... do you happen to know a site what I visit would tell me whether or not my real IP is included in the "header"?
I didn't delete cache and cookies as I used a different virtual machine.

check for your real ip address in any header
(most probably in X_forwaded)

I doubt it check your set up again. If you use chrome try this extension

excellent.. then it's not the proxy... disable the plugins in your browser and try again gd luck

Ok, so I don't have any extensions (never had) and removed all plugins (I had a few), cleared cookies, restarted Firefox, but Majestic can still detect my real IP.
So, what's next? If it's not my proxy or my plugins/extensions than what else can it be?

I think I've found it. On the proxy settings page, there is an option to use the proxy for all protocols (SSL, FTP etc..). I've turned it on and now it's working.
So, I think Majestic is doing an SSL check in the background to get your real IP somehow.

Lesson learned, thanks for helping.
