Proxy question

Ok, I have a question for all you smart guys.

I was told to be very careful using proxies because alot of proxies are run by hackers and if you use them they can take over your computer.

So would this apply if I'm using free proxies with a program like scrapebox? And if so what is the solution?

There are a number of ways to try taking advantage of a computer that connects with its public IP via a proxy. You will likely have dsl access by means of a router that might be vulnerable to various attacks, but most of them are not THAT trivial. And this is what pertains YOUR end. Additionally, if the proxy is run by some cracker, he'll become aware of the URLs of the backlinks you're creating and if your have flawed sw on your webserver they might take control of it, deface it, any other cr4p you can think of...

Check carefully if your router has known vulnerabilities (there was an ajax attack on the loose a while ago...), then assess your website for bugs. If all is fine the risks MIGHT be negligible. If you foresee this is gonna take too long for you the most reasonable alternative is buying private proxies from reliable sources. HTH.
