Guys,

I am new to IM and roaming in this forum I see that a lot of threads telling to use proxy. Someone is telling to use private proxy and someone is telling to use public proxies.

So is there any symbol that I can understand that which one is private and which one is public proxy? Please try to explain in details cause I am very new to IM..........

Thanks :)

Private: Private
Public: Public

Get private.

But how do I know which one is private and which one is public?

Ok, now tell me 119.30.39.93:8080 is one proxy. Is it private or public?

Public proxies are normally available in public. That is they are free proxies wandering around on internet.

Private proxies are usually paid ones. They are either exclusive for you or shared by limited number of users.

typically if it were private it would look like this:
119.30.39.93:8080:username:password

i tested the proxy and it appears to be a known public proxy in bangladesh, if it were private, it would still be bangladesh, but it would probably not be listed as a "suspected sharing device".

the answer to your question depends on whether you are asking in order to use a private proxy, or if you are trying to detect a private proxy.

Exactly but private proxies are usually paid ones. They are either exclusive for you or shared by limited number of users

What is your problem with adscend? At least link to a shitlist thread or pull that from your sig!

I wanna detect the type of proxy I am using? So if you can suggest me how can I detect the proxies?

There is no way to detect that other than having access to the proxy server and looking at who else is using it. In theory 'private' means only you are using it. In practice it is sometimes given to 4-5 users to save costs and users never realize that. It is still fine though if the proxy's bandwidth is large enough.

To prevent unauthorized usage, the clients are often given logins. So yeah, if you need a nick and a password, the proxy is most likely private. But if 1000 people know the password, the proxy has become pretty public :)

Following this logic, if you found the proxy on the open internet and can use it, you can be 100% sure that it is not private.
