Hey guys, I tried searching some proxy basics, but came up empty handed. I have never used a proxy before, but have become recently interested because I started torrenting again. I use peerblock, but the more anonymity the better, right? Problem is, I have no idea what I need or where to get it. I see a lot of people asking how "X" works on FB or CL, etc....I am not concerned with that. I am just hoping there is a simple program available to get me safe(r) while torrenting. I'm not sure if there are any free programs or if you have to pay.....I really don't know anything yet lol.

Another question....while I was reading up on these forums I stumbled across someone asking the question about how do you know what the last person was doing with that IP....which got me wondering if I'll be using an IP that was being used for sketchier activity than what I want to use it for.

I don't mind doing my own research on the topic, but can you guys point me in the direction I need to start learning about this stuff?

Sorry, what are you after? Free proxy services? Like Hidemyass or the firefox plugin like foxyproxy..

Or where to get free IP lists: proxyheaven (blogspot)

Sorry - it doesn't take an awful lot to confuse me..:banghead:

Using proxies for torrenting can be little bit more involved than using it for something else such as browsing the web. But if your looking for security then you dont want to use shared proxies, especially not public proxies. DO NOT SEND CONFIDENTIAL DATA THROUGH A PUBLIC PROXY!

Also, a lot of proxy/vpn services do not allow torrenting because of the heavy bandwidth usage, so make sure to check that it is allowed before paying for a service.

    hope this helps!

You generally use a proxy to change or hide your IP, but depending on the program you could be doing that for any number of reasons. I'd say you want to investigate the hows and whys for the individual program you're trying to get acquainted with.

For example: Even in just one program, Scrapebox, you may want to use different types of proxies (Public vs Private) for different jobs the prog does. So just asking "How I shot web?" in a general sense won't necessarily tell you everything you need to know about the job you're about to do.

I'm still searching for the best proxies, if there is such a thing. People who have found "the best proxies" probably aren't going to share them.
