proxy and IP's

so what is the difference between using a proxy or changing ur IP?

From my understanding i use a proxy if i want to be seen to be from a location, so if i am in the UK and i want to be seen to be in the US i use a US proxy, so simply changing my IP wont work.

If i am from the US and the site i want to connect to is also in the US I can just change my IP to hide and or create a new identity.

So, can i just change my IP untold times and remane anonymos without the use of a proxy?

By "change your IP" you mean something along the lines of resetting your modem or some such, yes? That just gives you a new IP in the same pool. You'll still register as being you, and from the same relative location. Usually within the same block as well.

Example: If you're at 75.214.219.3 and you reset your modem, you'll likely get 75.214.183.19

That's still almost the same IP, just a few notches away.

If you use a proxy, you'll get a completely different IP in a different block and geographical location.

Ex: 75.214.219.3 switches to 92.84.119.27

So if you're looking to hide your identity, you want a proxy. TOR will do unless you're doing something fancy.

It just depends on what you want to do. I've created dozens of gmail accounts from the same IP. what is it you want to accomplish?

I usually cannot continue after a certain number of gmail accounts (less than 12) on a single IP address.

But, the same IP address can be used to create more gmail account after 24hrs.
