Hi I am new here and I am new to BH as well. I don't understand what proxies have to do with blackhat seo or if they are necessary. Can someone please direct me to the "for dummies" section so I can understand the terms I need to use these forums? I haven't been successful in using the search feature.

Hide your steps, don't get banned and........learn to use the search. It's your friend.

Here's an extremely watered down explanation :)

A lot of BH related stuff involves automating a lot of tasks using software and doing those tasks in bulk thousands and thousands of times.

This is awesome for sure but this often requires scraping/posting to a site thousands and thousands of times. Most sites like Google do not like this so if they see such activity they will block your IP address.

Proxies help limit this to a large degree (if you have good proxies) by giving you a larger number of IP addresses to use which reduces your chances of getting blocked by other sites.

That's the very very basic description. Search around in the proxies forum and you will find some good info.

Proxies allow you to visit a site under a different IP address. If the site does not log Ip's then they dont know it is you who is creating more than 1 post or posts with back links for example. (which is good for your count)
Free proxies are available but often do no last too long. Solid ones cost may $10 or $15 per month

Okay this clears it up quite a bit for me. Essentially it's a way to lessen the footprint of your real IP and lessen the chances of getting flagged by spreading the black hat love between many different IPs.

I've got a lot to learn, I'm reading through many of the threads on here and absorbing what I can one step at a time. I'm testing out the free trial of No Hands with my primary affiliate site with some proxies it seems to be working quite well.
