Proxie Confusion: NOOB Needs Help, Please

First of all, thanks for reading.

Secondly, I've spent about 8 hours over the past couple of days reading stuff about proxies. The more I read, the more confused I become. I am sure that this is due to my severe ignorance on the topic. Let me use this very simple example below to illustrate my confusion:

So, let's say that I want to create 5 different Elance accounts, each with a different proxy IP so that admin doesn't catch me. I would use 4 accounts to order "from myself" in the 5th.

1. Would I simply sign up for HideMyAss?
2. With sites like HideMyAss, the IP addresses keep changing, right? They change daily?
3. If this is true, then my 4 Blackhat accounts would be placing orders from different IP's every day, correct?
4. And finally...is this why BHW's "Proxies for Sale" section has SOOOOO MANY people selling proxies? If I buy proxies from one of these "Non-HideMyAss" sellers, then will I get individual proxie IP's that will NEVER CHANGE? Will the proxie IP's be mine to keep and use forever?


Am I on the right track here? Thanks for helping a NOOB. And sorry if this series of questions has been previously asked thousands of times. I am simply overwhelmed with the abundance of information found in this forum. :)

When you buy a proxy, it means you're renting an IP (usually for a month). You can use that proxy as long as you continue to pay the provider.
 
So...why would I get a proxie from a BHW member vs. HideMyAss? Sorry to be so thick. But THANK YOU for responding. :)

HMA is a popular proxy provider, so some/many of their IPs may be easily identifiable and already banned by certain sites. Apart from this, there's no difference.
 
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So, going with a BHW provider is less risky? If you or anyone have any recommendations from the HUNDREDS listed in the "Proxies for Sale" section, I am all ears. Thank you again.

I've never use hidemyass.com before, but I do know a lot when it comes to proxies. To be honest though, I don't blame you for bein confused on the hidemyass.com site. It doesn't seem clear as to what they're selling.

Anyways, like qrazy said. When you purchase a proxy, you are renting it. But there are different types of proxies.

Private/Dedicated proxies - Where you are given a fast proxy that only you use. Rented for a price.

Shared Proxies - This is when you are given a proxy that is only used by a select few people. They're usually pretty fast, but not as fast as a dedicated proxy. Rented for a price.

Port/Reverse Proxies - This is when you are given a proxy, but it automatically changes in intervals (usually every 10 minutes from what I seen). You don't have to change the proxy from your end though. You just enter 1 proxy on your end, and then their systems are automatically able to associate different proxies to you without changing anything.

Public Proxies - These proxies can be connected by anyone and are usually slow and overpopulated. However they are free.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) - It's still a "proxy", and it works similar to a proxy, but it's different though because it connects your entire system and all it's connections to the proxy. Usually with a normal proxy you just throw it into Scrapebox or some software or browser plugin and it connects only that software to the proxy. But VPNs don't do that. You go into your computers network settings and connect. It will seem like your computer is located at where ever that VPN is.

From checking their website, it looks like they offer just VPN's (I think).

Any of the ones that are sticky threads should be pretty solid. Otherwise they would get the boot I'm sure :P
 
Wow! what a detailed explanation. So, assume that I work from home with only one computer. I want to switch between 5 different BUT NON-REVERSING IP's throughout the day, depending on the task at hand. A PRIVATE/DEDICATED Proxie that is only assigned to me would be my best choice. Then in order to switch back and forth, I simply clear my cache, go into Google Chrome, go into SwitchySharp Options, and plug in the numbers related to each individual IP or "Proxie", right?

I would not be doing anything like bulk tweeting from 100 different accounts or anything. For that, I assume a Port/Reverse would be best? Am I getting close?

So sorry for all the writing, but your post was uber-helpful. :) Thank you! I feel as if I am getting closer to buyinng SOMETHING. If you know of anyone that you deem reliable in BHW, I am open to suggestions.

It sounds like you're on the right track :) You could do exactly what you said about clearing cache and using SwitchySharp to do this. Personally I use SwitchyOmega and I additionally use another add-on called Click&Clean for clearing cache as I find it works better.

Yeah, the port proxies are usually used for bulk stuff where you want your IP to change frequently. Like with GSA SER where you're posting spam to thousands of websites every day. Otherwise it sucks having your IP change all the time. Sometimes it causes login issues if you get the IP of another country when it switches (10 minutes later).

You do have the ability to increase the duration of port proxies though, but I don't think it's more than a few hours, and I find those port proxies to be very slow from my experience.

One other bit of advise. If you want to get really fancy. You could create multiple profiles in your Web Browser to have multiple windows open at the same time, each connected to a different proxy. That way you don't have to clear your cache and cookies every time, and it's a lot faster.

It's geared specifically towards setting up multiple firefox profiles for the use of iMacros. But you ignore that and follow the guide for settings up the profiles. It also has some advice for speeding up Firefox incase having multiple Firefox's open at the same time slows down your computer.

To summarize what you would want to do in that post, you would open the properties of your Firefox, and add " -no-remote -ProfileManager" to the target. Then from now on when you open Firefox you will be prompted to choose a profile (and also create new profiles).

So whenever you create a new profile, it creates an entirely new instance of Firefox. They are entirely separate. So you can have multiple windows open at the same time. Both with different addons, cache an cookies, etc. That means you'll also have to install the proxyswitcher add-on to each Firefox :P

That's all you really need to know from the link. The rest of the techy stuff is just there incase your computer is running slow.

It's really nice though, I have a profile for my personal stuff, and then if I want to do something proxy related I just open the profile that I am using for that proxy and I have my personal stuff and work stuff running at the same time.

One last question: In other thread, I am getting confused. Let's say I buy ONE Proxy. I do NOT create multiple profiles, however. Can I:

1. Work with my regular IP for an hour.
2. Switch to my proxy and work for an hour.
3. Switch back to my regular IP and work for another hour.
4. Switch back to the same proxy IP a second time and work for another hour.

In short, the Proxy is mine to switch back and forth as many times as I like..for as long as I rent it, correct? It doesn't "go bad" once I disconnect from it for a short time?

No problem :)

You can do exactly like you described about switching back and forth between the proxies and the proxy will not go bad. The only thing you'll need to worry about with switching back and forth is clearing your cache and cookies.

Edit: You don't need the profiles at all. It just might be easier than having to clear your cache and cookies and log back in to everything. Plus it's nice to be able to multitask 2 (or more) proxies at once. With the profiles I don't even clear my cache and cookies :P

You will need to create each account with it's own non changing IP address. You will also need to use all separate account information. Make sure to use 100% random information, and make sure to use different email addresses. Don't use names or usernames with numbers at the end if you can help it.

No, never for a project that you will need to use the accounts more than once, VPN's are good for spam and throw away accounts, you will have to purchase private proxies, I recommend using private 100% dedicated fresh proxies. The only true private 100% dedicated fresh proxies that I have found are from proxy-n-vpn but I have not tried everyone's service. Make sure that the proxies are fresh proxies, and 100% dedicated to you. You have to be careful and read up on the service provider you choose, because some of them say they are dedicated but they have been use before or are actually shared proxies, so buyer beware.

Yes and this is why you would never use a VPN for a project like this, unless you find a private dedicated VPN. But I highly recommend using private dedicated proxies for this type of BH project to maintain 100% control of the accounts.

Just use private dedicated proxies and then you don't have to be worried about this. Just make sure you don't get the proxies mixed up with the wrong account. You need to make sure you use the same IP with the same account every time. I would also recommend making the emails with the proxies as well.

Their are many sellers hear, but make sure you do your research on each provider, and make the best educated guess you can, that will fit your needs. One thing to look for is price. Most dedicated private proxy sellers will have a higher price.

Your on the right track, and I'm happy to help anyone that is helping themselves, sounds like you have what it take to become a success in IM. One last thing, every time you create an account make sure that your running software like ccleaner, or advanced system care. This type of software will remove any tracking the site has downloaded to your computer.
