Properly direct linking?

Hi all, quick question that my searching skills were unable to answer, due to the results just being pages of affiliate guidelines for different advertisers.

I've recently found an advertiser I want to try my hand at direct linking, but I'm wary because the destination URL for the page I want to direct link also contains keywords that are listed in the section for "Web Site - Prohibited Web Site Domain Keywords: Keywords that publishers are prohibited from using in the top-level domain of their Web site"

Probably a very dumb question, but I'd rather get a second opinion than get smacked by CJ. Does that rule only apply if I were promoting their products via a LP that I've registered myself? Or does that count as PPC display URL ads I've purchased as well?

Nevermind..Found clarification, finally.."If you snoop around long enough for something in particular, you're guaranteed to find it."

If the use of merchant's "display URL on any PPC engine is prohibited" (as in the above example) then there's no way they can direct-link their PPC ad to you; and you want to mark that DTM field "No" (not "Yes").


When, however, merchants (or affiliate program managers) word their agreements, policies, or rules, in ways which may point to their lack of knowledge about a particular field, rogue affiliates easily spot that. And then don't be surprised about "violations".
