Proper Keyword Research

Hi,

I'm a newbie and im working on my first page

Just lost my job after an accident, so i have tons of free time

I asked the big G alot about keyword research, but everything i found was stuff like "make a list" "use google adwords". I also found that alexa-page.

But i guess there is more to it.

I didnt find a related thread here; so can one of you guys post a link with a detailed prescription how to do a good keyword research?

If that matters: the page will be in german.

well i just DLed the free trial of MS and noticed, that they are using bing to estimate the index count...? in the videos, its google. is it becuz of the trial version or did they change anything?
