Promoting a startup

Hi there!
I've just launched a startup and now looking for the ways of it promotion. Do you think it is useful to submit it to different catalogs/directories? If yes, maybe you can name some of them.
Also I would be very grateful if you could recommend me any other way of promotion my startup.

Submitting your website to different catologues and directories is not a viable promotional strategy. I suggest you read through the SEO sections of BHW to find some effective methods to jumpstart your startup.
