Promoting a fresh blog?

I started a blog about things that interest me, so that i can update it frequantly and not get bored. I cant find a way to promote and build traffic. The blog is about reviews and just random talk of geeky things like anime, movies, music, comics, figures, video games and that sort of stuff. What would be the best way to create traffic? Besides updating everyday. Should I do some blackhat stuff? im lost.

Related forums, websites, and especially social sources would be great for getting targeted traffic.

is there money to be made from my niche or not. Right now I have one adsense ad put in on the right bar, thats all. Or is there a better way to make money for my niche?
