I recently picked up a gig working for a company that distributes a product from Germany. They were initially looking for someone to manage their Facebook(300 friends) to help increase sales. I talked to them about SEO and internet marketing in general to help boost sales and they were eager to sign me on for the job. However I haven't done too much work on a a branded website selling a product. I had success in the past with adsense and a site that did affiliate leads.

I am considering having a blog added to their website as we all know, "content is king," but do you think that will fit it? Should I just have a few blogs on other websites, squidoo/hubpages? They sell about 10 different products, have a pretty good looking website, and have great packaging and materials.

The gist of what I am doing is handwriting articles and submitting them to other websites through Postrunner(free). Also I am doing blog/forum comments with do-follow anchored links. I am trying to get into building Web 2.0's and bookmarking but some of these concepts are new to me. I haven't done much IM in the past year or so because I had a brick and mortar business I was working on.

Anyone have any experience working on a product based website willing to share tips? I am working with a PR 1 site that is about a year old, about 400 facebook friends. No twitter followers yet. No G+ friends or Pinterest followers yet. Their product is on Amazon and it is also sold in a handful of small businesses. Anyone have any advice they could give me so I can hang onto this job? They are paying me pretty well for the basic stuff I am doing.

just do a query on googles adwords tool with their brandname, you should get nice keyword ideas, boast this to the top and widen their customer area.

first think i would ask if there are some kind of giveaways samples of their product, search for relevant blogs and ask the ones with authority in this niche for a review with backlink against a sample. do this in broad base, but stop doing forum, blog comment links youd use for a mns. if the company gets hurt it is much more brutal then a mns would be punished.

Do you think attaching a blog directly to the site would help?

yes, it would. try to get viral with personal office stories or so. but my advice from the post before is easier to handle for the beginning.
