private registration at Godaddy is a nightmare. There is no easy way to remove it after. next year renewal price for domain + Private Reg will be $24+ and removing private registration is a pain in A**. Because you can't do it by one click from your control panel like in other registrars. You have to goto another site register there and request a removal.

I like Godaddy but this is one thing I hate about it and staying out of privacy.

With namecheap, not only do you pay a low price, but you get free Whois protection for one year. I have it on all but my .co domains since those can not be protected.

That's the price I got when I tried to renew a domain with privacy in last May. I had to pay coz I even had to pay it because there was no instructions in that site they asked me to register (told by their support). I had checked about this in Namepros and found I was not the only have who had gone through this.

I could be wrong but I think godaddy uses "domains by proxy". I go straight through them and don't have any problems at all.
