Progress report: Getting a site to #1 in google, then monetizing it offline

I've just sent the same email to a clinic that has a listing 2 spots below me. They are also running a PPC campaign. I'm not expecting a response but there is a 0.01% chance that they want to increase their online exposure by having an another listing on the front page of the big G.

Since I have added another 400 backlinks, my site might jump to the top 3 in the next two weeks. At that point, I will start emailing the clinics ranking right below me to see if they are interested in having another listing. :)

Just sent another email to a clinic that has a higher ranking to my site. I doubt they will respond, but I did it just for fun. I have swapped out the classic WP theme to the Yukon theme, posted the info of one of the clinic I will be calling to the site and I will be making calls again. Unfortunately, there's only 2 more clinics that I can try to pitch the offer to. If there are no takers, I will offer it for free or a very low price to all the clinics and the first to respond will get the listing. This may not be a smart move but at least Ill get to add a client to my list. It will be funny if there are no response even when the listing is free. After, Ill move on to another niche that is more competitive and more potential advertisers.

Called another clinic this morning. Apparently the gatekeeper was a little more eager to get my contact information when I let them know about the advertising opportunity. I was quite hesitant to make calls today but I rather do it then not doing it. This is my second cold call and it isn't that bad. It seems that there are many who dislike cold calling and I must admit I'm one of them. There are even threads here that discusses cold call experience and strategies.

Here are some strategies I use and it may not work for everyone.

1) Try to call in the morning. When I wake up, my mind is blank and fairly stress free. I will think making the call is part of my daily routine and I wanted to get it over with regardless of the outcome.

2) When making the call, keep reminding yourself that you want to get rid of the inventory that you know are valuable to the client. This is not insurance or some other service that you know client do not need.

That is all. It's not much but at least I got through my first two calls within two days with that mindset.

On a side note, the clinic I called today told me the doctor or owner will call me back if they are interested. In response, I've just sent them an email minutes after detailing the advertising opportunity. I'm not sure how effective it is but by using email in addition to the call, at least they'll get the idea about the seriousness of my intent.

On the website, I've also included the clinic's information for them to preview what it will look like as well as slap on a profile image of one of the doctors under the Contact Us area.

Zero, nice to see you taking initiative, why not try emailing them first and in your email explain that you'll give them a call tomorrow than when you cold call you can tell the gatekeeper that they are expecting your call, which should make it easier for you to get by.

Also, are you able to get the business owners name? Perhaps through the local business commerce or BBB. Asking for the owner by the first name will make it easier to get through, rather than just "Hey, can I talk to the owner" it'd be "Hey, can I talk to Jimmy".

That's a good idea actually. Ill try it on my next attempt.

Yes, I did the "homework" before I call. I usually ask for "Dr. XXXXX" who is either the owner or one of the primary doctors in the clinic. The issue is, the gatekeeper just responds with "Dr. XXXXX is busy with a patient right now, may I get your name and number and may I ask what this is for". Ill tell them its about an advertising opportunity and she will say along the lines with "Ill let him/her know but I can't promise that he/she will call you back". Interestingly enough, both gatekeepers I've talked to give a very similar reply. It's almost looks as if they have a script to counter my script. :o

See I can imagine an owner to be much more interested in advertising on your website if it was properly developed. Right now I personally would not want to advertise on it as a doctor as it just looks very cheap.

Just an idea I read in an offline ebook if cold calling each one doesnt work.

Get the emails of all the businesses you can and send them all an email (cc them so they all see you are sending it to their competitors) saying that you have whatever spot, and you will sell advertising to the next business to respond. Then mentions details of traffic etc, and how many visitors, how they come and also that estimated conversion thing.

not too much,

im still slowly rising in the google ranks, currently on 3rd position for one keyword, and on first page for about 4-8 others. my main keyword is also slowly rising
