Programming as a profession is dead because of AI

Agree with @Fluxify on the script kiddie thing. i tried doing some custom api routing last week and claude kept hallucinating endpoints that didn't even exist. ended up wasting three hours before i just paid a guy on telegram to fix it in ten minutes.

as for the hard data @virchual... you probably won't find a clean stat sheet yet because things are moving too fast. but just look at the junior developer market right now. it is pretty brutal for people trying to get their first entry level job because basic coding is basically free now. the guys who actually know how to build complex systems and debug the messy code AI spits out are still in high demand. the job is just shifting from writing lines of code to debugging and system design.

But like @MootSam said, the moment you need to scale things or bypass serious bot detection, the AI just falls apart and loops the same garbage. Had this happen last month trying to build a multi-threaded scraper... spent hours trying to get the LLM to handle proxy rotation and fingerprinting properly before I gave up and paid a real dev to clean up the mess.

The low-tier script kiddie market is definitely dying because anyone can vibe code basic tools now, but actual software engineering isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

This would get better and better as Ai is evolving.
The machine learning + human training of AI is filling this gap so fast.

Yeah the shift is definitely real but saying programming is dead is just youtube clickbait. i run a lot of automation for my campaigns and tbh claude has saved me thousands on simple python scripts this year. but the moment i tried to hook up a custom api for some cloaking logic last month the AI just kept looping the same broken code. ended up having to hire a senior dev anyway to clean up the mess. @The WP Nerd is right about the junior market though. if you only know how to write basic syntax you are basically competing with a free tool now. the real value is in knowing how to stitch different systems together and debugging the garbage the LLM spits out.

Most of the people saying coding is dead are just looking for clicks on youtube. Like @SMM Junction said, AI is great for spinning up quick single-file scripts or basic automation... i use it daily to draft simple python tools. But the second you try to build something that needs to scale or bypass fingerprinting, the LLM just hallucinates and shits the bed. You end up spending more time debugging the AI garbage than it would take to just write it. The market is definitely changing and the junior devs who only know basic syntax are hurting, but we are still a long way from AI replacing actual software engineers who know how systems work.
