If you build a profile link on a forum, but you then have to be logged into the forum to view the profile - will G still index and count those?

No.. Search engine won't spidered any page that requested you to login first

Actually most profiles are public unless you make them private. Those are counted.

As a webmaster you can also use tools available from G to allow their bot access to password protected pages. I have never allowed that on my sites though so I have no idea what affect it has.

Only public ones are counted. Whatever you can see, Google spider bot can see. That is a good general rule of them, but not always 100% the case.

Password protected are useless. Google bot does not log in to spider a page.

Are you guys sure of these links not being visible to Google?

I mean, FORUMS allow Google/Yahoo,etc.. Spiders to crawl as exceptions without any need to be logged in.

To make my point, search the URL of that profile in Google.. If you click the link Google provieds, you will be asked to LOGIN, however, if you click the CACHED link (bottom right of the result), the profile will show up without any need of logging in since that is Google's cached copy.

yes, forum admins can set their forums to allow bots to crawl without loging in. But, unless it is set up by default on the forum scripts (I don't know, never run a forum), I will say why bother? there are simply so many public profiles out there.

I tried a few different searches for established members of the forum I was posting my profile to, and no luck in google. :(

Damn, I wish I could find them. I suck at finding footprints that show those. I'm trying to stay away from using the same footprints everyone else uses, but even so, I still suck.

I've seen forum posts show up in Google but when clicked I had to login. However I was able to view the private forum by using the cached version, so perhaps the backlinks will still show up if that too is possible for your forums.

Only public profiles are counted by Big Google. If you have to log in to write somethink on forum, google bot will not see that.
