Amazon has everything from laser pointers to jeeps.
But I have learned, the hard way, that some niches are simply horrible for IM. :crazy:
Garden furniture, for example, is one of them. I concluded that large furniture sucks as an IM niche for two reasons:
1. it's huge and has a lot of shipping and assembling issues involved that would deter online buyers
2. since furniture is usually bought according to personal artistic taste, people prefer view it with their own eyes.

I think that for one, amazon products should only be promoted if they are judged based on their functional value. Artistic & decorative pieces (sculptures, paintings, jewelry, clothes) would likewise be poor niches.

You're kind of thinking right, but kind of not. Big IS the way to go, though. I'll see if I can send PM's and give you an idea that has worked for me. I don't mind sharing, because most people would never even think about it, anyway, much less try it. ;)

My experience is different. From small traffic, I manage to convert visitors to buyers. I'm talking about furniture. Big items. And the comission is $60 / sale and up.

I guess it is worth it, if you compare to like, selling books. You may get a bunch of sales, but the commission is less than a buck.

I don't mind sharing with a few people, but I don't want to flood the market with this thinking, either. Unfortunately, my count is still too low to PM, post links, etc.

Hmmm... let me say this: You don't always have to sell to people. A lot of companies buy online, too. BIG companies that need BIG products. Know what I'm saying? I wish I could post a link to show you the kinds of products I'm talking about.

If you're going to target only people, then google 'jameslist' and target THOSE sorts of people, not nickle-and-dime stuff. ;)

i sell downloadable mp3s. don't skip the cheap products because it will increase your commission rate up. i sell in the books niche. the one that is not so successful is the children's books niche.
 
I don't really give a damn about am promoting so long as my keyword research tool tells me there are good monthly searches for it from the right countries. Books for instance is something i thought wasnt worth my time and effort but with the cookies and amazon a big brand, you can sell more than you are actively promoting. Experience has shown me so.

That is very true, dragonian. I forgot that point. Once you get your rate up for the month with the little things, then slam the right people/companies with the BIG products, and I mean BIG/LARGE products.

I don't know. Maybe I just hone in on my target market more closely or something. I don't go for big traffic numbers on my sites, I target either people that are already proven to buy high-ticket items, or companies.

Ah yes, it's true. Small items can help boost your commission rate due to how Amazon structure works.

Okay, I thought of a way to get everyone in the door without posting any links. Go to Amazon, and in the search tab select 'Scientific & Industrial', then just hit go. When you see the results, re-sort from 'Price: High to Low'. Then you'll see what I was trying to say.

Find the product FIRST, then figure out your niche(s)/sub-niches, and do a little research to find out where those people hang out.

BTW, I'm always trying to learn new things to, so if anyone has any ideas how to make this even better, I would love to hear them.

And then... Promote it to institutional or business buyers? Do they actually buy huge industrial safety valves from amazon based on an amateurish micro niche Blog?

I'm guessing weights and exercise machines wouldn't do too well. I lift weights a lot myself and spend a lot of time on fitness forums, and people don't buy those online unless they absolutely cannot get them at a brick-and-mortar store. They'd rather drive 3 hours than order it online. The reason is that the shipping costs will be through the roof, since weights are heavy (by definition)

However, other fitness-related items might do well, like heart rate monitors, interval timers, exercise bands, etc.
 
Definitely worth it. If you manage to build a network of websites, then you can be looking at some nice passive income.
 
i have amazon only as side products where i have nothing else which converts.
i like to avoid amazon because i dont like to make the company even bigger.
now they kill the small stors and later they will kill the im market as well. which they try to do already. when you sent a buyer you get once a comission but amazon is trying hard to make this client buy next time direct. and they will dominate the serps. you can be happy for some bucks short term but long term ...
 
Ah, you'd better not post not cheap, and DON'T BUY ITEMS FROM YOUR AFFILIATE LINK, that'll ruin you.
