Hello. You need to be more careful with Reddit. I recommend to absolutely anyone who wants promotion off of Reddit to first make a PERSONAL account and use it for themselves. This means following subreddits of things that interest you and so on. You really really need to learn how that community functions and values things, just as you had to learn how BHW does before you started something serious here.
It's basically a separate island from most of the internet. Fuck that, it's another planet and not a small one at that. If you think of social media as planets in the Solar system, Reddit would probably be Mercury, not some random ass unknown satellite of Jupiter. I'd go as far as to say it might even be Mars.
Learn the Martian rules brother.
@Licheus gave you an amazing rundown.
If you are not good with words/writing/expressing yourself, hell, if you are not a good ACTOR, Reddit will just downvote your promotions into oblivion. Your self-promotions will most often need to look like either a part of some analysis (AvsB in that field, with your link somewhere in there), a thoroughly researched article where you will link to a PIECE of the information on your own domain - your blog/website preferably, or your PMs where you will entice people to follow you somehow, through kind words mostly. The final option is one that rarely works outside of Reddit, but it can do wonders on Reddit itself - You humbly ask for something in return for all the original content you've given that subreddit.
All that stands for promotion via posts.
It's possible to promote via comments, but that is way harder as it takes growing accounts and planning basically a whole theatrical play.
