Problem with Permission Getting Reset to 777 Automatically

I am facing Problem with Permission Getting Reset to 777 Automatically in my hosting account (hostable dot com). Although I changed my password yesterday and reset the setting PERMS to 755, but again in the Morning, the PERMS was automatically reset to 777 and all my websites hosted there were disappeared. When I reset it to 755, it all appeared again.

Any body please help me sort out this issue.

Hey Chances are (and this is just a guess - so others feel free to chime in your hosting provider is probably running automatically and changing permissions to 777 to close and security gaps...? Just a thought! Is this happening in a specific folder set?

I have installed abouit 20 websites and every folder permission is getting reset to 777. I talked to hosting provider but they shown their helplessness in the matter.

Sounds like a hosting problem.

Hosting is cheap these days.

Just backup, archive and switch hosts. It is so incredibly easy to do now.

1. The cost of trying to get to the bottom of this is going to exceed the costs of just switching to a host that Just Works(tm).
2. If you host has no idea what is going on, do you really want to trust them with a money site? Or any site for that matter.

I just noticed that they are a member of 'Brinkster'.

My suggestion? Switch. Switch today. Don't wait till tomorrow.

I had a nightmare with Brinkster a while ago with a client.

First, the original server was Windows, and client was trying to run some rather esoteric WordPress setup. It took them almost a week to provision a Linux hosting package. Then it turned out that the PHP on that was soooo outdated that WordPress would not even install. Their suggestion was to downgrade to an older version of WordPress, (2.9?) that would work on their PHP.

At that point, I told the client I was quitting unless he changed hosts .... An hour later, the site was live and working on a hosting company that had their act together.
