For some reason the other thread I made did not show the post and the page did not load properly so I cannot edit it either. If a mod ccould delete that thread that would be great :)

I have contacted my server service provider but they are being pretty slow on getting back to me today so thought I would see if anybody else has had this problem before.

Yesterday, I had a site on one of my shared hosting accounts. The site went viral and used up 50% of my months bandwidth in a night so I decided to switch the site to my server instead.

So I login to namecheap, set my DNS to (I am with mediatemple):
    ns1.mediatemple.net
    ns2.mediatemple.net

This morning, I wake up, my site is down to all (Not just me), so the DNS must have changed from my shared hosting.

So I login to Plesk on my server, remove the addon domain and re-add it and get a message that the domain is not pointing to the correct DNS and it gives me the IP that it is pointing to.

The problem is that now my site is down, I have lost the viral effect and am not earning from it now, has anyone else experienced this problem before when changing your DNS?

You should have used a redirect instead of changing DNS!

If you like: Send me the URL, previous and new ip and I'll see what I can find out about what is going on.

I have changed the DNS back for the time being and the site is back up again. Servers are not really my area, when you say redirect do you mean just setup a second website and redirect to the new site?

I'd suggest you to make a 301 redirect from shared hosting to your server.
