I bought a proxy but it only works when I am connected to the internet
is it working correctly? in theory shouldn't it work on its own without depending on my internet?

Proxy serves as a relay between client and the server/target so that the target can trace back to proxy and not the source/you

You first connect to the proxy, no connection - no action from the proxy

that's what suppose to happen.... proxy is just a middle man between you and the destination server.
