Private Whois for uk domains

anyone else have problems protecting Whois for uk domains?

Anyone else dealt with this before? Its a problem I am having with hostwinds specifically where they are saying its not possible to have private whois info for a UK domain.

I don't think its true because I have other uk domains with other providers that are using private whois provider.

I also looked up on nominets website (The uk domain space registrar) and they have a policy specifically for private whois registration.

Anyway, if anyone knows the answer please let me know and if not I will post the answer here when I get to the bottom of it

Just for the record I confirmed this with the UK registrar (Nominet):

1.Whois opt out is only available for UK domains if you are a non-trading individual AND the domain is not business orientated. This service is not the same as private whois though.
2.Private whois IS an option for UK domains and there are no such restrictions as with opt-out BUT this is a service provided by whoever registers the domain (Not Nominet who are the registry not the registrar). So this privacy service is still available for UK domains but only if the registrar supports it - which it seems internetBS dont and neither do hostwinds as they also use internetBS for UK domain registrations.

Case closed

Domain monster has actual domain privacy for UK domains (they will even hide your name). alternatively register as individual and optout of showing your info (your name will still be shown)

^^ thanks. Well yes I have private uk domains with a few other hosts.

Hostwinds wouldn't even refund me, despite having made the mistake of selling me a service they could not provide and despite not even being able to confirm the facts afterwards (I had to call nominet on their behalf).

So needless to say I have lost all respect for hostwinds now and will not be using them or recommending them again.

I'm no fan of hostwinds either. Had my sites hacked a few years ago and a lot of downtime and they did nothing to help.

Well I'm stuck with a domain now for 12 months that I can't use. Really I cannot beleive they would not refund me - if I had known that they were unable to provide ID protection for the domain then I would never have ordered but they had ID protection showing as an option after I have selected the UK domain and added it to my basket.

It's such a small amount of money but its just totally useless in my opinion that a hosting company won't own up to their mistakes.

Silly by them, because due to their attitude for the tiny amount, they lose a customer who could potentially spend hundreds a month in future and become an affiliate.

I just hate companies with that type of attitude. As it happens I do spend a fair amount on hosting with various providers, but it shouldn't be about that, you have to look after your customers because they are what makes your business work. Especially so in this case when they were clearly in the wrong and further more I had to put in 100% of the effort to find out the answer for them.

I think its the first hosting provider I have ever fell out with and I will never use them again, or promote them, thats for sure.
