Private Proxy Servers

Hello I am in the process of creating several private proxy servers. I've looked up multiple tutorials but I feel like I should get some tips here as well. First of all, what kind of hardware would I need to create 1000+ private proxies. I'm going to start with 1 and later on increase so this is for future reference. Would I need a cluster of computers? I plan on using Linux too. Any advice, tips, or concernes? Please and Thank you.
