2 questions...

1. If you post on private blogs, will ahrefs find/count them?

2. Is there a way to block ahrefs from finding your backlinks (to prevent competitors from gaining knowledge)?

1. If it will be indexed they count it
2. Do not post it
ahrefs is not the factor for google rank it
if you have 1000 links which is most powerfull ?

im just analyzing someone's rank.

0-1 backlinks, top of page 1. -just curious if he blocked ahrefs.

Yes, generally it will find it an count it. However, it is possible to block the bot that ahrefs uses for crawling via your robots.txt file. And you could specifically block the robot from ahrefs while still allowing the Google crawler to find and index the links. So it would be possible to use that as a technique for hiding your links from your network from competitors.

What happens when Google starts looking at robots.txt and if it sees certain sites are banned it penalizes you?

best way to block a spider is to blacklist the IP networks it uses
