Hi all

A few questions for you experts in making private blog networks of your own.

1) Do you do some tiered link building for individual websites in your blog network?
2) Do you use Web 2.0 and social media like Twitter and Facebook for the individual websites?
3) I have used GoDaddy & Namecheap so far, so I am looking for a few more cheap but reputable domain/hosting companies

If you are going to grow the network to 30+ domains, I would look into $1 hosting to keep the costs down.

I am trying to get expired domains but am not very good at it! I am trying to find good ones manually through dropped website and its taking a long time.

Anyone for other questions?

When it is completely dropped and re-registered, ie bought for the base price, then it starts again.

The only way to retain the credentials, is to buy at auction, and pay the transfer fee, then the whois will stay the same, etc.

I think PR is still a good orientation point though, even if it hasnt been uploaded for months and it not important as it used to be.

So how can I utilize the link juice so that it retains?

PR is determined by the links going into domain. PR will always exist, but it's the external toolbar PR which has not been updated (what google shows us)

Too many people rely on this external PR, I have no clue why.

Back when google was still updating their PR, completely dropped domains would get their PRs back during the next update if the domain has strong links going into it. However, anyone who understands PR knows that internal PR (whay google sees) is updated all the time, it's the external PR (what google shows us) that's not updated.

Dropped/deleted domains lose out on the age benefit though, but still powerful if you know how to utilize it.

As far as I know, you basically check the backlinks for a website and redirect those pages to your own pages since there is a high probability that the path to your pages would be different from the website in it previous form. So you basically check the backlinks and see where they are pointing to and then create the same pages on your website and set up a redirector. the theme of your website or at least the pages pointed by the backlink should be similar to the previous theme.

Now just to let you know I am not an IM and I haven't confirmed the above with any experiments but I have been reading and trying lots of things for past year and this is what I have read from some reputable members here. So take it with a pinch of salt

Agree but unfortunately there isn't any way to check the actual PR (internal) of the page. or is there?

1) Yes, you should be building links to each website in your network to help it keep its authority/PR and even gain some, making the link juice more powerful.

2) All of the above + Wikis and bookmarks. Try to keep the tier 1 links for your network as clean as possible.

3) Most good domains are going to be auctioned on certain registrars, so this is the least of your worries.

- Yes, make sure the links are of higher quality and not automated to protect the strength of your network
2) Do you use Web 2.0 and social media like Twitter and Facebook for the individual websites?
- This would be a good idea, very time consuming though for larger networks
3) I have used GoDaddy & Namecheap so far, so I am looking for a few more cheap but reputable domain/hosting companies
- I use name.com, hostgator, bluehost, and just host to diversify my purchases.

Why in the hell should you except if you didn't buy the right domain and even at i wouldn't do that. The sites you use should be already made.

I only buy the site and replace it with content e.t.c to look like what it formally looks like.

You should search the BST for sellers offering services for domains. I remember a while ago (I can't remember who it was) there was a seller that would find PR3+ domains that were available for registration for only $20 which was a really good deal. This could also help you to expedite your PBN setup so do some searching around and hopefully you'll be able to find a service that can help.

In regards to hosting, check out SEOHosting.com. Though I haven't used them yet, I've read some good reviews about them and may be a good option for you.

Being honest networks require planning, the most effective networks are planned months before they kick in. You want a strong first tier towards the network sites, by buying domains then having to build strong links you're on the back foot pretty much throughout the whole process. Yes there are workarounds but they involve a higher risk.
3 - 5 months gives you the time to get the strong first tier organized. It makes the whole process alot easier and a much more potent. Indeed it is not unusual for network sites to have other networks pointing at them. Don't just wordpress either, use every format possible, ghost is a new blogging platform, it'll get some favourable benefits from google in time because the comments uses disqus, this means if you spam, disqus bans your account and you lose EVERY link, regardless of the site, across the disqus network. Wordpress is weak on that front and akismet now charges for akismet so ghost looks like a real blogging platform which is sure to please google in it's anti spam properties.

If you use wordpress remember and use the discussions option and disallow comments and trackbacks it is not uncommon for me to see 16K of comments wating to be moderated on my wordpress sites where I have comments open, screw that. Disallow them. If you want to make your site look visited temp allow them and create your own and allow then then block again.

Don't use cheap hosting, they get hacked easily , have many other issues, I'm not saying spend a fortune but use decent hosts, if you are creating several networks look into reseller accounts and the like.

One last question:

Is it more important to go after expired sites which a relevant to your niche or unrelated sites, but with more backlinks and higher trust?

I would do a mix of both in your network. That looks more natural and you get to have some websites with High PR and Domain Authority but you also get very relevant links from the other sites.

One thing that you can easily do is make the expired domain relevant by adding Titles, Meta descriptions, alt image text and content related to your main site.

Always choose High PR domains over Relevant to your Niche domains.
