Previous 301'd domain as a PBN?

Pretty much what the thread title says,

Found a domain which has pretty good metrics, nice back link profile wiki links and a few other big name sites.

Its got a clean history in terms of not being used as a PBN however it was at one point used as a 301 redirect to another site.

I know the rules on using expired PBN domains are a no go, but if its just been 301'd whats everyones opinion on it, worth a try or should i just leave it alone?

In my opinion if it was 301 to a legit site like for example anotherr domain of the owner - you can check it easily check what site was about and check the redirected one - are they the same? same niche? if yes then the owner just changed domain name and wanted to point traffic to a new one thats all thats normal thing for people that don't know something like seo exists

If it pointed to some other different domain different niche something you can clearly said someone bought domain and 301 to hes money site then well depends how much time passed since then.. 1 year? then no 2-3 ? if 2-3 then maybe its worth a try more than 3+ ill would go for it

Some people do 301 for a valid reason like for example if the owner moved to a new domain. A domain that redirects is fine unless it was clearly redirected for SEO purposes.

Check whether the 301 was a SEO redirect or an actual real world redirect to one of their new sites. If it was a SEO redirect, then dump that domain, else you can use it provided it is retaining all its backlinks.

Yeah it was redirecting to an irrelevant site, given it was only a £5er i've decided to get it anyway its got a pretty good set of links so i'll stick some content on it and see if it indexes. If not i'll just bin it.

The domain which has nice backlinks, good metrics etc are sounds good. But with my opinion, If your 301 domain is already redirect to any money site, it is not the right one as you thought. Verify it is your niche site or not. More redirection will cause google confusion and give you a notice for it.

I accept dip371's word that if the owner wants to view the new site, old domain 301 redirection is good. If you try it for SEO the site may get banned.
