PR is a big bunch of no-follow links that comes from identical pieces of write up, ie duplicated content.

Whether possible or not, my take is-
"Dont count on it."

If your keyword is "do chameleons catch AIDS" then MAYBE.... but this thread will probably out rank you.

for medium-competitive keywords = of course not
yes it can, if your keyword is "Press release - Is it possible to rank with just them?", your thread already rank #1 on google without any backlink.

Definitely not. Placing links in your PR that point back to your website can be useful in boosting your search engine rankings. But, PR alone will not help you to rank better.
