I hope someone can give me a starting point.

I want to know how a premium rate company for sms services are set up.

I tried to google but it came up with service providers.

Cheers. I had a quick look at the system and it looks complicated but of interest and something that I could use.

Currently what I would like to know are the basics ie:
When a person sms's a number (short code) how do I bill the carrier company and get paid
Where do I get these short code numbers from

You need to check a number provider, contact them and will provide numbers / IPRN to you and will provide you a portal where you can see every message or calls that you are receiving 24/7.
