Preferred Domain Changed

I've just changed my preferred domain name from http://www.mysite.com to http://mysite.com in the Webmaster Tools. Do I still have to add anything else to the .htaccess file or will all the BLs get automatically redirected to the one domain?

Why you do this, what are benefit for this?

This is how people screw up their website. Bored?

If your site is already indexed with the www and you are building links to the www version then ther eis no need to change anything as zero benefit but potential issues in doing so unless you have a specific reason?

when your domain is indexed with www. already then redirect the http://domain version to the http://www. version.
FOr the others, you only want one version of your domain

yep, pretty good example how one can use GWT to screw up his site ranking

a htaccess redirect to www from non www ( or vice-e-verse) would have done your job (before your site got indexed). Now your site may have issues as yourmate suggested..

1. You should not have done this as it was not required.
2. Now as you have done this, You have told google that your preferred domain is non www site but your have not done any thing for the old back links which still points to your www version of the site.

3. now you should redirect www version of your site to non www version in .htaccess so that you can take the benefit of your old links....

Yeah, I guess I was bored When I enter the address of my site in Mozilla it quickly changes from mysite.com to www.mysite.com and then back to mysite.com. It was annoying me...

I've been building links to http://mysite.com but I also had a few (strong) links built to http://www.mysite.com that's why I wanted to do it.

I've changed it back to the 'no-preferred domain' option like it was before. I made the first change only 35 mins ago so I hope it won't affect anything. I don't think that even Google works this quick!
